Winning Issue » PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Some Americans object to public funds being used for organizations which provide abortion services. Pro-life groups say this funding is responsible for the murder of countless unborn, contrary to the wishes of many taxpayers. Others disagree, saying direct federal funding for abortions has been outlawed for many years. In 2024, Planned Parenthood (PP) performed at least 402,000 abortions at more than 600 clinics. It received nearly 39%, or about $792 million, of its annual funding from government grants and contracts including Medicaid. Critics say this underscores the need to prohibit federal funding of this organization. Supporters say Planned Parenthood provides a wide range of reproductive health services aside from abortion, including pregnancy testing and contraceptive services. They claim PP performed no abortions using federal funds.

In 2024, PP served 2.08 million patients and provided 9.4 million services for them, including sexually transmitted disease treatment for 5.1 million Americans and cancer screening and prevention services for 426,268 others. That same year abortion services comprised 4% of the healthcare services PP provides to the public. In some rural areas, the Planned Parenthood clinic is the only affordable reproductive healthcare option for people without insurance. PP claims one in five American women have visited a Planned Parenthood clinic at least once in her life.

Options

  • I oppose reforming current Planned Parenthood policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Speaker Mike Johnson (LA).
  • I support prohibiting federal funds for Planned Parenthood for one year, unless the organization certifies it will not perform or fund abortions during that period by:

1.) Prohibiting any federal funds from going to Planned Parenthood Federation of America or its affiliates for one year.

2.) To receive federal funding, the organization would have to certify that it would not perform abortions or give money to any other entity that does. If this certification were violated, the government would be required to recoup any federal assistance received.

3.) The funding restriction would not apply to abortions resulting from rape or incest, or if the procedure was necessary to save a woman's life.

4.) Authorizing an additional $235 million for community health centers to help mitigate potential gaps in women's healthcare services. These funds would also be subject to the same abortion-related restrictions.

And wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Rep. Brett Guthrie (KY) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.
