Winning Issue » FACTORY FARMS

Industrialized factory Farms, sometimes referred to as concentrated or confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs), are farms on which large numbers of livestock are raised indoors in conditions designed to maximize production at minimal cost. Pigs, chickens and cows are often housed in close confinement where their movements are severely inhibited. Animals are kept in overcrowded cages, crates or pens without enough space to turn around or lie down comfortably. Egg-laying hens are kept in small cages, chickens and pigs are kept in packed sheds, and cows are kept on crowded, filthy feedlots. There are no federal laws protecting the welfare of animals on farms.

Proposed Legislation: Reintroduction of H.R.2939 - PIGS Act of 2023
Prospective Sponsor: Rep. Veronica Escobar (TX)

Polling Options
  • I oppose reforming current farm animal confinement policy, and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Speaker Mike Johnson (LA).
  • I support making it unlawful for a person to cause any breeding pig to be confined in such a manner that prevents the pig from lying down, standing up, or turning around in a complete circle without any impediment, including a tether, and without touching the side of an enclosure or another animal, or confined in a space with less than 24 square feet of usable floorspace per pig. And wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Rep. Veronica Escobar (TX) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.
